Caerus session on "Gender Equality in the Labour Market" debated in Marco
On the morning of Thursday 23rd February, the Caerus CLDS 4G in Marco de Canaveses held a session on "Gender Equality in the Labour Market" at Marco Invest.
Speaking to the newspaper A VERDADE, Judite Freitas, technical coordinator of Caerus - CLDS 4G in Marco de Canaveses, explained that this session on gender equality aimed to "promote employability, respecting this fundamental human right of equality and non-discrimination. To sensitise entrepreneurs, institutions and other employers to active participation in the implementation of active employment measures," she explained.
As far as entrepreneurs were concerned, the main aim was to make them "aware of the support available from the IEFP", he added.
Marco de Canaveses town councillor Nuno Pinto said that "unemployment has fallen to what I consider residual levels over the last ten years". However, the unemployment rate for women "is triple that of men". As such, he believes that one of the reasons for this phenomenon may be "the lack of suitability of qualifications for the labour market and the needs of employers".
In addition, he reveals that Marco de Canaveses' own "characteristics" mark out this panorama, since "textiles exist, but construction has three times as many people working and whether we like it or not, textiles is predominantly female and construction almost exclusively male".
Judite Freitas also said that, through practical examples during the session, it was possible to conclude "a change of spirit, mentality and respect for the human person through the opening of female places" and that it is necessary to "continue to invest in education. Whether it's educating young people about this fundamental human right, but also so that the training of young people is appropriate to the employment needs of employers," in line with the speech of the local councillor.
Caerus CLDS 4G Marco de Canaveses is "a project for social inclusion and works on the basis of two structural axes, employment and the family, because a person can be employed and be on the margins of society in a situation of exclusion, or they can be without work and be on the margins of society and in a situation of exclusion. It's not decisive that labour alone is the factor of social exclusion, but it is one of the factors that weighs most heavily," explains the technical coordinator of Caerus - CLDS 4G in Marco de Canaveses.
It is therefore planned that "employment will be worked on from both sides: working with the unemployed to train them to actively seek work, offering them qualifications and vocational training and also enlightening them about all the work they have in entrepreneurship, the possibilities of creating their own jobs, promoting employability with the support of entrepreneurs".
The initiative is co-ordinated by the Santo António Foundation and promoted by Marco de Canaveses Town Hall.
The event was also attended by Elsa Correia, Marco de Canaveses' Local Councillor for Equality, Aurora Carvalho, from IEFP - IP, the Tâmega e Sousa Employment Centre, and Alexandre Oliveira, from Sociedade de Pedreiras do Marco.
